Gerber Technology has been creating technology that “optimize customers' design and manufacturing processes” since 1968. They provide improvements for the managing of a product design and creating a more effective option for a manufacturing process. Gerber Technology is a private company based in Connecticut. Gerber Technology’s owner is Vector Capital, who is a “global private equity firm specializing in the technology sector.” (“Gerber Technology’s,” 2015)
Gerber Technology serves several Fortune 500 companies across many industries: “fashion and apparel, transportation, aerospace, furniture, packaging, signage, sheet metal and gasket fabrication, technical textiles, prefab construction, heavy equipment and mining, wind, and oil and gas sectors worldwide.” To provide worldwide customer service, Gerber Technology has “customer solutions centers” around the world: “Tolland, Connecticut; Shanghai, China; and Brussels, Belgium.(“Company Overview,” n.d.)

AccuMark is used in the apparel industry to create garment patterns, place artwork images to help with imaging cutting placement. It allows a more effective process to grading patterns to multiple sizes with “automatic grading updates, intelligent calculations and pre-set size tables.” AccuMark possesses the ability to create a marker order completely digitized and can generate digital printing files. Work orders are made simple with AccuMark’s ERP systems. The systems “automatically planned, nested, plotted, and have reports and cut data generated without human interaction.” This provides a human-error-free and more efficient option for apparel companies. (“Gerber Technology’s,” 2015)
Gerber Technology provides other services that can be used in junction with AccuMark.

AccuMark 3D
AccuMark 3D utilizes Blender, an open source 3D simulation, and animation application, to create a 3D model of garments instantly. Problems can be solved digitally without the process of sending the pattern to a sample maker and numerous fittings. These 3D garment models can be sent around the world to project collaborators. The purpose of AccuMark 3D is to create a more efficient way to take a design to a flat pattern. (“AccuMark 3D,” n.d.)

AccuMark Made-to-Measure
Gerber’s AccuMark Made-to-Measure (MTM) is, “the only software solution that offers true automation from pattern modification.” The technology is greatly beneficial for the creation of custom-fit garments. Through the use of 3-D body scanner or simple tape measurements, AccuMark MTM can create patterns. MTM uses technology from AccuNest to automatically create a marker that will save on the cost of materials. (“AccuMark Made-to-Measure,” n.d.)

nest.jpg
AccuNest Automated Nesting Software
AccuNest is a software that automatically creates nest markers that utilize materials up to 2% compared to a single-core nesting system. Having a simple 2% savings evolve into $10-100k over a year. There is no need for human intervention and is even able to work overnight to meet demands. (“Gerber Technology Intro”, 2014)

AccuPlan.jpg
AccuPlan
AccuPlan is a spread and cut planning software that will “plan for and process multiple cut orders, plan marker and ply requirements and generate reports, even for multiple fabrics.” Accuplan can increase productivity up to 50% for the spread and cut planning. At each step of the production process, AccuPlan is there to efficiently adjust to needs every step of the way: automating planning process, adjusting work order needs, inventory, automatically calculates material needs for each work order, and creates cost sheets. (“AccuPlan,” n.d.)

Digitizing.jpg
AccuScan Pattern Digitizing Software
AccuScan allows for flat patterns made from with pattern board, oak tag, plastic or paper to be digitized into the Gerber AccuMark system. The process, through the use of a “high-quality digital camera or scanner”, is 20-50% faster than manually digitizing the patterns. AccuScan will “automatically detects notches, grain lines, internal lines, drill holes and the part perimeter,” creating a near perfect digital pattern ready for the rest of the production process. (“AccuScan,” n.d.

Advantages of CAD/CAM Software
  • Provides a time efficient way to apparel manual work (Islam, 2017)
  • Data is stored, transmitted, and transported via computer files (Islam, 2017)
  • Provides designs from around the world to be shared (Islam, 2017)
  • Provide a higher quality end product with less human error (“Advantages …,” n.d.)
  • Product process time is significantly shorted (“Advantages …,” n.d.)
  • Mass production is made easier (“Advantages …,” n.d.)

Disadvantages of CAD/CAM Software
  • Expensive (Islam, 2017)
  • Computer problems can create work delays and loss of work (“Advantages …,” n.d.)
  • Operators have to be trained with each update (Islam, 2017)
