Services

Concept

Customers of Arcadia Power by default direct 50% of their energy usage to wind power. [2] Customers provide their credentials to their existing power utility online account. Following linking their utility account, Arcadia Power will search out and purchase the most cost-effective rate clean wind energy available to you on your behalf. Customers will receive recommendations and usage information through their Arcadia Power Dashboard as well as the ability to opt into additional green energy services online. By simplifying and making wind power cost effective to the community, wind generated power demand is increased and benefits the environment and wind industry. [3]

The Dashboard is the online customer interface where users pay their utility bill through Arcadia Power enabling the support of wind power. The user is presented with various statistics such as the amount of clean wind-derived energy consumed over time graphically, compare usage trends, see friends usage, and enable various other Arcadia Power products. [4]

Memberships

Customers who wish to upgrade from the free 50% wind-matched energy have the option to purchase 100% wind-derived energy by paying the difference in cost. The average customer only pays $9 additional when upgrading to the 100% wind power membership. [5] Customers using the 100% plan can use the price alert functionality to ensure they are getting the best price possible for their wind energy. [6]

Co-Op Solar

If a community solar farm is available in your area, customers can subscribe to one or more panels. Savings from the amount of energy a customers panel produces will automatically be applied the the customers monthly utility bill. This allows customers to enjoy the benefits of solar panels without costly and invasive installations.[7]

Home Efficiency Program

Via the Home Efficiency Program, customers can complete a questionnaire about their lifestyle and home and receive energy efficient upgrades for their home such as smart thermostats and LED lightbulbs at no upfront cost. These upgrades are paid for over time with the savings in energy they create for the customer. [8]

Impact

Arcadia Power's wind farms have generated over 300,778 clean megawatt hours of energy saving the equivalent of 245,746 tons of CO2 from burning coal for the same amount of energy. By facilitating the process of purchasing clean energy, customers can receive the benefits of clean energy while advocating and progressing the green power industries of America. [9]

what I like about this article is that it shows some potential of a company trying to help people save money on their power bills, and for a little bit wind did seem to have a good idea in helping with that, but from what i've heard and studied is that wind doesn't really help as much as what people think, and it all comes down to the fact that sometimes there is just no wind, and in deserts where a lot of people live, would not seem to bee he best place for this idea, there are better ways of getting energy. but they may not be the cleanest ways of going about it. We as a society try to find new ways to help the environment but sometimes don't realize how much energy it takes to run a small town, and how much more energy its going to take when we start introducing electric cars to our power grid as well.[10]
