I plan to talk about Autodesk Revit. Revit is a three dimensional architectural design software. Before Revit AutoCAD was the main program used by architects to design buildings. All specifications had to be entered manually. At a price of around 7,000 Revit is significantly more expensive than AutoCAD but after learning how to use it one will see the great benefits that it has. Because Revit has cut out a ton of tedious input work it is a huge time saver for those that use it. One problem that older architects face is that they have become so accustomed to AutoCAD that they feel it's too much effort to learn Revit because it is very complicated and very different from AutoCAD. Right now is a great time for college students to get a job during the process of getting their degree because of the demand architectural firms have for people who know the software.

The functions of this software cover architectural, engineering and construction modeling needs. Some of the most important are:

1.- Components of design and construction: The program has tools to design the building from conceptualization to construction planimetry. This covers details on walls, floors, skies and decks, including curtain walls. In addition, it allows to make a volumetric study by means of masses, to calculate areas by floors and to experiment with textures, materials and colors, among other applications.

5.- Modeling of terrain and exteriors: It allows designing the building taking into account the external context, delivering floor designs and patterns. It also offers a library with vegetation and other elements, such as construction machinery, to plan the construction processes properly.

6.- Multidisciplinary work environment: The different teams can work simultaneously in a building and the program will coordinate all the changes entered.

7.- Presentation and visualization: It has integrated rendering that includes doors, windows and skylights in its calculations to simulate the conditions of natural light, among several other functions. It also performs area analysis to produce schematics, has an integrated pantone and allows to export to pdf to print or send via email.
