Christian von Koenigsegg was born July 2 1972 in Sweden, with dreams of eventually building his own perfect machine. He founded Koenigsegg Automotive AB when he was just 22 years old. Now, 44 years old, he produces some of the most mind boggling vehicles in the world. Christian von Koenigsegg is a man I believe to currently have one of the largest technological and charismatic presences in the high performance automotive industry. His passion has astonished the world, and his contributions to the automotive industry are enormous. Christian produces cars that compete with the highest echelon in performance automotive such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. He has taken the hyper car to the next level with major breakthroughs in automotive engineering, while still maintaining the belief that his creations are moving art (APEX-The Story of The Hypercar). Even though his company only employs around 100 people, and is one of the youngest in comparison, his productions are very well recognized in the industry. (IN DEPTH: Koenigsegg Factory Tour with Christian von Koenigsegg) By harnessing every technological advancement he can wrap his head around, and employing in house manufacturing and testing of components, he has produced some of the finest and fastest automobiles in the world.
Before Koenigsegg- Christian always had a knack for mechanics, Christian was a college graduate with high ambitions since he was a child, he was an entrepreneur from the word go. He even ran his own business handling imports and exports (koenigsegg.com/story). Christian has always been ahead of the curb when it comes to the ideas he tries to contribute to the world. In his younger years, Christian created two inventions that would soon become very common in the household. The first creation was a Chip Player, with its larger storage capacity and smaller size compared to compact discs, he thought this would soon be the way we would listen to music. Later with no interest from the investors, he abandoned the idea of the Chip Player to try his hands at greater things (koenigsegg.com/story). Still feeling ambitious, Christian invented a flooring system that “Clicks” together. Aptly named Click, he presented this idea to a few companies in Sweden. With no luck, he also stepped away from this idea. Sadly, both ideas were marketed and produced successfully some years later, one even under the same name (Koenigsegg.com/story).
Inventions and Innovations- Christian utilizes an in-house R&D department, simply because to major manufacturers could not meet his needs or produce his parts on a small scale(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glf_k4qGBAA). For the past decade, Christian developed Free Valve Technology, which eliminates the camshaft and timing gear in conventional combustion engines. It utilizes a sort of solenoid to actuate the valve up and down, allowing for higher duration lift and almost infinitely more possibilities in tuning for horsepower and efficiency. He also produced some technology called Direct Drive. The most impressive part of Direct Drive is the Hydraulic Coupling. It acts similarly to a torque converter and a clutch meshed together, but allows the vehicle to operate without a transmission, in a theoretical “7th Gear” (Christian von Koenigsegg) the vehicle still produces a massive amount of torque and bone rattling levels of acceleration, not equal to any other. His in house development facility produces the carbon fiber mono chassis with its innovative integrated fuel tank to increase safety and disburse weight more effectively. They also produce their hand crafted carbon fiber Hollow Core Wheels, stronger and lighter than any other of its kind. Koenigsegg produced every item from only the highest quality materials and does not overlook even the most minor details. Christian believes that every aspect of the car needs to be equally beautiful. They are one of the few companies that utilize hybrid technology in this manner. Koenigsegg was also the first to produce the first 800 Volt plug in hybrid vehicle.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glf_k4qGBAA).
The Lime Light- Koenigsegg as a company, has never been one to hide its accomplishments. In 2004 and 2005, Koenigsegg set 2 world records with its flagship model the Koenigsegg CCR. 2004 the CCR took the record with the tittle of the Worlds Most Powerful Production Car, beating out one of their other record holding models the CC8S by 150 H.P. With a total of 806 Horse Power(http://koenigsegg.com/koenigsegg-history/). In 1998 the McLaren F1 set the record for Worlds Fastest Car, Koengisegg set out to beat the 7 year standing record in 2005, and accomplished that goal the the CCR. The same car that set the world record was the one presented at the 2005 Geneva Automotive Convention.
