Jeremy Clarkson
born in Doncaster, England on April 11, 1960

Jeremy Clarkson is an English broadcaster, journalist and writer who specializes in motoring. He is best known for co-presenting the TV show Top Gear with Richard Hammond and James May from October 2002 to March 2015. He also writes weekly columns for The Sunday Times and The Sun.

- Childhood
  • Jeremy was raised by his parents, Shirley Gabrielle Clarkson, a teacher, and Edward Grenville Clarkson, a travelling salesman. Jeremys parents put him through private school with the profits made through their business selling Paddington Bear toys.
- Career
  • Jeremy started out as a traveling salesman for his parents Paddington Bear toys company.
  • Clarkson got his first starts in the journalism field when he trained as a journalist with the Rotherham Advertiser, before also writing for the Rochdale Observer, Wolverhampton Express and Star, Lincolnshire Life, Shropshire Star and the Associated Kent Newspapers
  • Later on he started a company called Bedder 6. Bedder 6 is a British company, responsible for exploiting and promoting the Top Gear brand, including international sales. It was founded by presenter Jeremy Clarkson and executive producer Andy Wilman in October 2006
- Writing
  • In 1984 he formed the Motoring Press Agency with a few friends testing cars writing reviews. They originally wrote for small magazines and newspapers but eventually they wrote for Performance Car magazine. In 1987, Clarkson wrote for Amstrad Computer User and made articles about Amstrad CPC game reviews. Clarkson writes regular columns in the tabloid newspaper The Sun, and for the broadsheet newspaper The Sunday Times. His columns in the Times are republished in The Weekend Australian newspaper. He also writes for the "Wheels" section of the Toronto Star.

  • Clarkson's first major television role came as one of the presenters on the British motoring programme Top Gear, from October 1988 to February 2000. Top gear adopted a new format and he resumed his role from October 2002 to 8 March 2015. Along with co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond, he is credited with turning Top Gear into the most-watched TV show on BBC. Clarkson presented the first series UK version of Robot Wars. Clarkson also had a talk show compiled of 27 half-hour episodes aired in the United Kingdom between November 1998 and December 2000.
  • In 2007, Clarkson won the National Television Awards Special Recognition Award. Also in 2007, it was reported that Clarkson earned £1 million a year for his role as a Top Gear presenter, and a further £1.7 million from books, DVDs and newspaper columns (The Independent, 2008)
- Recognition
  • Although Jeremy had been writing and testing for automotive journals before, Top Gear was what really made him gain recognition and attention.
  • Clarkson was ranked 49th on Motor Trend Magazine's Power List for 2011, its list of the fifty most influential figures in the automotive industry. (Motor Trend, 2011)
  • Clarkson recently left Top Gear as a result of a spat with BBC resulting in the three main presenters of Top Gear to leave the show and network as well.
  • November 18th, 2016 - Amazon released a show similar to Top Gear entitled The Grand Tour in which Clarkson, Hammond and May review cars, and entertain with car related specials in which they go on trips and report on the performance of cars that they use, or create different vehicles to ultimately achieve a goal assigned by the producers of the show (Amazon executives and producers)
- Influence
  • Jeremy has been exploring and writing about all the modern automotive technologies as they are being produced. Jeremy plays a major role in informing the world of these new cars through top gear and his writing.
  • Through the television show Top Gear, Clarkson has allowed viewers to get a first glimpse at a lot of the newest technologies.
  • Some of Clarkson's most impactful influences come from his negative comments or opinions of certain things. In some episodes of Top Gear, Clarkson can be seen having a strong criticism for a particular car or technology. This review can be taken by viewers and used to create a better understanding of the issues in the subject.
  • Clarkson's reviews, whether good or bad, can be used by the manufacturer of the car to either improve their technologies or change some unwanted features
