The Nintendo Switch is the upcoming console developed by Nintendo. It was first announced on October 20, 2016 and is the next generation console that will replace the Wii U. It is a mixed or hybrid console, intended for both on the go and at home play. It was released on March 3, 2017 and has a retail price of $299.99. Just as with earlier consoles, Nintendo is taking a different route than the other major console creators, such as: Microsoft with the Xbox One, and Sony with the PlayStation. The Nintendo Switch is a combination of new ideas and previous products from Nintendo. The tablet features of the Nintendo Switch are similar to the Wii U game pad. The joy con, the small controllers that you use to play, have similar elements to the Wii motes. It’s key feature is being able to go out and about with it, how accessible it is with harks all the way back to the very first thing Nintendo ever sold, which was playing cards in 1889. [1] It is very similar in being able to take it anywhere, and the mass appeal it has.

Features:
The creation of the Nintendo Switch is partly in response to the surge in mobile gaming, and how much time people are willing to spend on their mobile devices, but they also want to provide an in-home experience as well. The main feature of the Nintendo switch is that it is a tablet that you can take on the road with you, and then when you get home you can put it in the dock where it seamlessly switches over to the television, and you detach the controller from the tablet and go. The ability to take a console on the go is something that has not been done or tried by others. This makes it a great product for people who love gaming to be able to take their game anywhere they want, to be able to play at anytime. There are also games that you can play with your friends when you’re out and about. You can use one console using the Joy-con as two controllers, or playing with other people on their systems. Nintendo producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi, said in an interview that he wanted to pull it out in a London pub because of the multiplayer interest that it has. [1]

Specifications and components:
The Nintendo switch is a tablet style device that has many functionalities. You can attach the two small controllers, called the Joy-Con, to the sides of the tablet. You can put it in the dock which you connect to a T.V. and you can continue right where you were either just with the two Joy-Con, or by using the Joy-Con grip to turn it into a conventional style controller. When out and about, you can even prop it up using the built-in kickstand and play games using the detached Joy-Con. It has a built-in touch screen. There are both speakers and an audio jack so you can have sound either just by yourself, or when playing with friends. The battery can last more than six hours, but as with anything will vary depending upon what you run, and what settings you use. For example, if you are playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild the battery will last only about three hours on a single charge. It has a total of 32GB of internal memory, but this can be expanded using SD cards. The touch screen is 6.2 inches, capacitive touch, and can display up to a resolution of 1280 x 720. [2] It will be interesting to see what comes from this new means of gaming, and the public response to it.

Advertising:
With only four and a half months between the announcement and the release, Nintendo has done a large amount of advertising for the Switch. Sunday, February 5, 2017 marked the first ever Super Bowl ad published and aired by Nintendo showing the features of the Nintendo Switch. This ad was focused on reaching out to players of all different varieties, and interests. The commercial appealed to those who range from people who can’t even wait to get out of bed to play, to those who play to grow closer together with their families, to those who play just with their friends. [3] They are putting a lot of trust in this console, handheld combo, and we will wait to see what comes of it. The ad cost 5 million dollars to air during the super bowl, showing the large amount of trust that Nintendo has in its new product.

Reception
There have been many reviews done of the Nintendo Switch so far, and they are mostly positive. Currently it has some shortcomings, but hopefully may of those will come with time. In a review on Engadget that is similar to many others, the author talks about the good and the bad of the Switch so far. [4] One of the major problems that many reviews have brought up is the lack of very many games available at launch. There are many games coming, but for those who bought it at release or who will buy it soon, will only have a small amount of games to choose from. Other than that reviews have been mostly positive, and there is a lot of hope of what can come from the Switch. Many have praised The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild though. although the launch titles are very slim it was smart of Nintendo to launch it with a Zelda title the legend of Zelda series is one of Nintendo's top selling franchises.
