The Nintendo Wii launched on November 19, 2006. The Wii had some competition including the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony Playstation. The Wii was one of the best selling Nintendo consoles to date with 350,000 sales within the first two days of release. This console introduced something unique to the gaming world that being motion controls. The Wii controllers consisted of the wii (wand) remote and the nunchuck that are held in opposite hands. The wand remote has a motion detector on the front that is picked up by a sensor that sits either below or above your television depending on your preference or setting within the console. The wand part of the controller could even be turned sideways acting like a traditional remote like the old days. Although it has this feature, most of the Wii systems launch games used the motion control capabilities. The nunchuck portion of the remote has an analog stick and a couple of triggers buttons allowing precise movements in some of the software titles. The remote has a plug in port that allowed different types of external controllers as well. Like the classic remote that allowed more of a traditional controllers scheme a lot like the Nintendo Gamecube's controller. Layout. The Nintendo Wii introduced the Nintendo Wii e shop. Which allowed users to download the games instead of having to drive down to the local store such as a Walmart or a Gamestop or any other retail store that sold games. Another feature this e shop channel which is what it is called on the Wii system allowed is called virtual console. This feature created a lot of very cool options for kids that didn’t grow up during the early stages of Nintendo. The virtual console had old games from Nintendo’s early years like original Nintendo entertainment system or NES for short allowing you to download their top titles from the past. It also allowed games from the super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64. These games used the Nintendo classic controller. Yes this feature is very nice to have but some of the issue is if you don’t like the games you have purchased there is no way for you to return them. That may be a good reason some people choose to go out of their way to drive down to a retail store to buy a physical copy of a game they like over getting it digitally. Although some retail stores do not allow returns on open items. Some stores like G8_Bit_Mario.pngamestop allow you to sell1200px-Wii-console.jpg back games you no longer play to earn store credit or sometimes cash. Another cool thing about that option is that pre owned games tend to be allot less there for saving the customer money. Some of the very popular launch titles that were introduced day one were Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and Wii sports. Wii Sports utilized almost every feature that the new controller provided. Like a bowling game which simulated a pretty realistic bowling experience. It also had baseball tennis golf and boxing. This technology put Nintendo back up on top in the Gaming industry.
