Sophia is the First Artificial Intelligence Robot. Sophia is classified as a Humanoid Robot. She was developed by a Hong Kong based company called Hanson Robotics. She has been an amazing development in the technology of Artificial intelligence. She learns things by taking to humans and can interact with us. There have been interviews with Sophia and we have learned from these interactions.
The intention of inventing Sophia was make the world a better place. She is not fully developed, as there is much to learn. Sophia picks up things from humans and can formulate responses based on new information. She learns quickly and uses cameras in her eyes and voice recognition to converse and observe what humans do and how they work. She imitates human behavior and analyses what she observes and learns how to react. Sofia wants and was designed to protect humanity.
Sophia has been granted citizenship into countries, and has changed the way that the world works, and what can be accepted as a citizen. She was accepted as a citizen in Saudi Arabia. She has become a public figure. She has been named the United Nations Development Program’s first ever innovative champion. She is the first non-human to receive this title.
She is modeled after Audrey Hepburn. Hanson Robotics claimed that she Audrey had a simple elegance, and they wanted Sofia to emulate that. Sophia can express and have emotions. Hanson Robotics and many others say that Sofia has a sense of humor. She can express feelings. Sofia is of course not a free thinking being. In an interview done by Jimmy Fallon with Sofia, and David Hanson- the creator of Sofia, David Hanson says that Sofia is always trying to build relationships with people around her, and trying to imitate how they act and compute the proper response. David Hanson, claims that she is “basically alive”
Sofia can be programmed to have certain responses and personalities. One of which is simple questions. For example, “is the door open or closed?” There are other personalities that can make pre programmed witty comments, or respond correctly to a person speaking to her. This is the “chatbot” program. The other personality, or function if you will it recite speeches. This is something she did to the United Nations. When she is giving a speech, she can pause, and have facial expressions like a real human would while giving a speech.
Sophia, and all other Artificial Intelligences are programmed to do specific tasks. This is something that they do very well in. it is like they are an expert on the subject.
